3D western town

I find 3d to be very difficult as I am more of a 2d person at the moment. However I did enjoy the modeling process and if I have the time I would like to learn more and get better at 3d as it is a useful skill in today's animation work world.
My wire frame version of the town I modeled in maya

The textures I painted in Photoshop for the projection map.

Playing around with lights in maya

Final shot.
I am very proud on how my wild west town looks. If I have more time in future I would like to learn more about modeling in 3D.

2d Background

This is my 2d Background. I'm not a great painter so I am proud of how this shot turned out. I find that making backgrounds is quite difficult. I feel that I am better at character art and I find technical drawings quite difficult. My art style is usually quite cartoony and expressive so painting in a naturalistic technical way was a good challenge to push my skills further.

2D six week playground project

Final animation with sound. I found this task very difficult as animating 8 characters and making them all interact each other proved a difficult thing to time.
Key frames work in progress.

Title Sequence Group Project

I was really interested in designing a title sequence animation as I did a graphic design course before coming to university.
I was the producer and director in this group and I produced schedules. I did all of the animation for this project as well as some of the assests.
I learnt how important the role of a producer is and how important good scheduling and planning is to producing an animation. I learnt how to make schedules and learnt how important team work is in animation. I learnt how to try and make production plans and how to work with people and how to work to tight deadlines. This project also taught me how important good communication with the team is.
I feel I worked really hard and I am proud of what I achieved and what I produced in such a short amount of time. I had issues with communication within the team and I feel I tried my best to include everyone in the project. In future I will try different strategies to get people more involved and engaged in the project.

Schedules I created for the team to see on the shared Google drive I created.

Experimental

My experimental project

For my Experimental project I was tasked with producing an individual 60-90 second animated self-portrait using experimental techniques. I really enjoyed this project as it gave me a chance to think outside of the box and try and produce an animation using techniques I haven’t fully explored before. It gave me a chance to learn new ways to tell a short story.
I decided it would be funny to portray myself as a fugitive on the run. I moved a lot in my early childhood and I always loved crime and noir films about gangsters and criminals on the run, so I always felt a little bit like that I am on the run from the law. I came up with a short narrative where an interviewer is talking to a police commissioner about an escaped fugitive who is me.
Some of the techniques I used in this short animation were playing scale, rotoscpoing, adding cartoons into live action footage, playing with lighting, and scratching on film.
If I had more time to perfect the animation for the live action shot I would try and find a way to make stuff in the real world react with the cartoon characters like for example moving the curtains when my cartoon self-jumps out the window. However, I am very proud of my outcome and have learnt some new techniques for animation as well as storytelling.
